About the place

The Liberty Statue was made by Adolf Huszár and, after his death, by György Zala. It was unveiled on 6 October 1890 in memory of the 13 generals of the Hungarian revolution executed in Arad on 6 October 1849. The monument is about 12 m tall. In 1925 it was taken down by government order and kept in Arad Fortress.

In 2004 the statue was re-erected in the Romanian-Hungarian Reconciliation Park on Piața Pompierilor and unveiled on 25 April. Next to it stands the Triumphal Arch, about 9 m tall, by sculptor Ioan Bolborea, dedicated to the 1848–1849 revolution of the Transylvanian Romanians. The ensemble is a listed monument (AR-III-m-B-21095.02 for the statue).
